Conférence de William Whitaker aux Instantanés d’architecture : Louis I. Kahn and the Gaspésie

École d'architecture, amphithéâtre Neumann à 12h

L’École d’architecture de l’Université Laval vous invite, vendredi 25 janvier 2013, à la conférence de William Whitaker, architecte, Université de Philadelphie.

La conférence  LOUIS I. KAHN AND THE GASPÉSIE  aura lieu à l’École d’architectre, à midi, dans l’auditorium Neumann (2117).

William Whitaker is the curator and collections manager of The Architectural Archives of the University of Pennsylvania. In addition to the daily activities of managing one of the leading architectural repositories in the world, he has organized and co-curated over 30 exhibitions, including retrospectives on the lives and works of Louis I. Kahn, Lawrence Halprin, Antonin and Noemi Raymond, and most recently on Wharton Esherick. His 2006 book, Crafting a Modern World: The Architecture and Design of Antonin and Noemi Raymond (with Kurt Helfrich) provided the first assessment of the couple—important for their artistic links to Frank Lloyd Wright and Japan. His forthcoming book, The Houses of Louis I. Kahn (with George Marcus; Yale University Press, fall 2013), provides a new and insightful account of the architect’s house designs, revealing significant moments in his artistic development, from his earliest encounters with modernism to his enduring fascination with Le Corbusier.

Trained as an architect, he received his undergraduate degree from the University of New Mexico and Master’s from the University of Pennsylvania where he teaches as a visiting lecturer in the Historic Preservation and History of Art departments.
