Accommodations

We will be based at the site of the Faculty’s International Summer School at Perce, situated on a point overlooking the Gulf of St-Lawrence and the Perce Rock. Three heritage buildings are located on the site, including the historic Villa James that will be used for seminars, meetings, and class work. Our field work will take place in Val d’Espoir, 15 km from Perce.

Participants will be housed in charming, typical gaspésien rustic dwellings : the recently renovated Biard House belonging to Université Laval and, depending on the number of inscriptions, the Wexford Manor or the Captain’s Residence belonging to the Canadian Heritage of Quebec Foundation. All the houses are located near the Perce Rock and the Villa James.

Accommodations are available in single occupancy at a rate of $12 / night (the regular rate is $45 / night) and include sheets, blanket, facecloth, pillow and towel. Participants who are sensitive to the cold might want to bring a warm blanket or sleeping bag as nights tend be be cool at his time of year.

Because the size of each bedroom varies in the differents houses, they will be allocated though a random draw upon arrival. This form of housing is affordable, pratical and convivial and is reserved for those registered for the course. Living rooms and bathrooms are shared.

Each house has a fully equipped kitchen (pots and pans, plates, etc.); participants are responsible for purchasing their groceries and preparing their meals.

In the past, we have cooked a number of collective meals for the group, rotating tasks. So bring your favourite recipes! Please let us know ahead of time if you have food allergies or dietary restrictions.
